THE RECOGNITION OF HIS LORDSHIP

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13).

In our previous study, we reviewed the fact that our authority as Christians comes from heaven. We rule from heaven. However, the foundation of exercising this authority is rooted in our faith and relationship with Jesus Christ. The Name of Jesus is central to our salvation and divine authority.

From the very moment you accepted Christ, the confession of His Lordship marked the beginning of your journey in Him. God’s people need to be taught and trained in the understanding of the Lordship of Jesus; He’s the Master of our lives. This means He has authority over your words, your thoughts, your choices and decisions, and every aspect of your existence.

The most beautiful thing about this is that His Lordship over your life is one of love. We’re the objects of His great love. We yield to the lordship of His love. The Bible says we love Him because He first loved us (1 John 4:19). It’s the reason we worship Him the way we do. It’s the reason we kneel to Him in adoration, not out of habit but out of reverence, submission and recognition of His lordship.

If you fail to recognize and address Him as Lord, then kneeling to Him becomes a mere ritual. You kneel because He is your Master, and you bow in reverence to His authority. You might say, “But though He’s my Lord, He’s also my friend.” That is true. Nevertheless, you must recognise, learn and submit to His Lordship and honour accordingly.

A true friend of the King honours the King with the highest regard. As a friend of Jesus, your reverence for Him should serve as a model for others to follow. You should honour Him even more. He’s the great King of glory, Lord over all, ruler of heaven and earth. He knows who He is; He’s so great, yet affectionately disposed towards us.

He said to His disciples, “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet” (John 13:14). He taught us to be humble by the example of His own humility. He didn’t need titles to affirm His identity; His lordship is inherent. Honour Him with your life. Honour Him in your worship and your actions.

Prayer / Confession

Dear Lord Jesus, I acknowledge your lordship over my life. You are my Master, my King and the Lord over all. You alone are God and have immortality dwelling in unapproachable light. You’re the ruler of heaven and earth; I worship and adore you, and to you be all honour, glory, and everlasting power. Amen.
